Medical support transforming lives

TVF awards a grant of £8000 to Kingston Hospital Charity towards its new Staff Garden

Published: 21 July 2022

The Victoria Foundation is delighted to support the Kingston Hospital Charity once again and to award a grant of £8,000 to support the cost of developing its new Staff Garden on land in the northeast of the Kingston Hospital estate, adjacent to the Wolverton Centre. The grant will help to fund landscaping and appropriate seating for the garden.

The new Staff Garden is to be located in a space that is about one third of an acre in size, on a sloped and wooded patch of land in the northeast of the hospital estate surrounding the Wolverton Centre. To make this space more useable and responsive to the needs of staff, the sloped grass areas are to be terraced to provide three levels. The top one will incorporate a group seating area, a covered meeting space and picnic/ barbeque area; the middle one will provide some mixed seating and outside table tennis; and the bottom one lawn and planting. Each terrace is to be developed with a range of low maintenance materials to give a natural and relaxed feel with the planting scheme to be supported by RHS Wisley. The wooded area is also to be thinned out and the access improved with the installation of paths and some seating. Work is expected to get underway in early May with completion expected during August.

The provision of rest areas and meeting spaces continues to be something staff are prioritising, so the expectation is that this new outdoor space will be well used once completed. You won’t be surprised to hear that the hospital remains extremely busy, as it has been for many months now, so the health and wellbeing of our staff remains one of our key focuses, alongside supporting projects that directly enhance patient care.    Rob Aldous  Director Kingston Hospital Charity

TVF has awarded this grant by way of gratitude and acknowledgement to the staff at Kingston Hospital for their dedication during the COVID-19 pandemic.

TVF is looking forward to attending the offical opening of the Staff Garden at Kingston Hospital in September.

The Victoria Foundation's volunteers helped to replant the Garden of Reflection at Kingston Hospital in November 2020 and now in July 2022 it is  looking marvellous.

"The Garden of Reflection is an outdoor space enjoyed by both our staff and patients and their families, particularly during the spring and summer – see a picture below of the garden taken earlier today. The feedback from staff has been that there are not enough spaces for them to have some downtime, hence the commitment to develop this new garden area on land adjacent to the Wolverton Centre."  Rob Aldous  Director Kingston Hospital Charity
